Interest rates are still at historic lows and prices have dropped on resale inventory. New construction is sluggish, with builders offering buydowns and extras as incentives. Many buyers believe that if they wait long enough, prices will crash. Further declines are probable, but not of the cataclysmic nature some buyers are hoping for.
